My final day as the sports intern at the Tiffin YMCA was a pretty cold experience.  It was also the flag football and soccer games and they were playing them at Heidelberg University's football stadium.  All of the kids were really excited about this because it was later at night and the games were under the lights.  The first games that were scheduled were flag football and both the teams showed up and started playing.  The weather was cold but it was starting to rain.  The soccer teams came in a little bit after and the weather was getting worse, so the coaches decided to call the games off.  Me and Becky called the rest of the coaches to see if they still wanted to play the games or if they wanted to cancel.  All of the coaches decided on cancelling because it wasn't worth getting everyone sick.  We cleaned up the soccer fields but the two flag football teams were still playing so we let them stick it out until they wanted to leave.  The parents were all understanding about cancelling and I think the coaches made the right decision for the kids too.  It wasn't a great last day for my internship but it was a different situation and new experience that I got to go through. I think this internship has taught me a lot about event planning and organizing and dealing with parents and coaches.  This has giving me a lot of experience with youth sports.

I have worked this internship for a long time now and me and Becky have been somewhat into a normal routine.  This day was different though.  Becky asked me to help her out with one of her gymnastic classes that she had scheduled.  Normally she would have done this on her own but it was a good experience to see what other activities the YMCA puts on.  This event was an event for home schooled students that were 7-10 years old, both boys and girls.  There was about 10 of students all together and there was one student who had a disorder that Becky wanted me to kind of keep an eye on.  There were two parents that stayed and watched.  The event was set up in the YMCA gymnastics area in the back of the gym and me and Becky set up about 3 different stations.  The students were pretty good about following directions and listening but I ended up baby sitting one of the students, which I didn't mind because I was helping out Becky so she could focus on the students that were actually listening and paying attention to the activities.  I think this opportunity was very helpful for new activities ideas for the future.  It was also good to get out of the normal routine and paper work.

This week is the Cross Country Heritage Festival meet.  This was a very large meet and had a lot of participants.  I could only be there for a little bit.  Becky didn't really have anything to do with this event but she told me the cross country coach needed some help.  I didn't really do anything with the event but I helped out with taking admissions.

It's the beginning of September and the YMCA is a little slow in the youth sports department.  I'm mostly in the office with Becky just organizing papers that she needs for gymnastics, copying papers, and clean up some of the storage areas around the YMCA.  Today I organized one of the storage areas near the front office that had a couple gymnastic boxes but mostly boxes for the day care program.

This week I am still working with Becky in the office.  We are still working on folders for the gymnastic classes.  We had sheets separated that coaches need to give back to Becky before they start classes.  Some of the sheets were waivers and permission forms.  I had to staple a booklet for the coaches to keep that had the hand book, roster of their team, and information packet.  These folders are going to be given out at the next classes.

Today are the last tee-ball/ coach pitch games.  One of the teams needed to push one of the games back a half hour because a coach couldn't make it at 6:00 pm for the game.  The coaches of both the teams that were moving the game back both agreed they could play then and communicated with each other first through email, then emailed Becky about what they had planned on doing and she approved.  The time change didn't really change anything with the games; the only difference was that I needed to go to lock up the storage unit a little bit later than a normal game day.  All the games went smoothly.  I got the equipment out and unlocked the bathrooms for the teams and make sure the teams were on the right fields.  The teams were pretty good about being on the right fields.  After the games were done, I locked up the bathrooms and storage after the games were over and picked up the fields.

T0day is a change in my routine from the usual setting up fields for tee ball games.  Today I was in the office with Becky.  I helped her organize registration forms for gymnastics because a new season is coming up soon.  I had to alphabetize forms and make sure that every participant had a permission slip filled out.  I sent out fliers with forms and a news letter attached to every family.  I also filled out the excel sheet for the gymnastic coaches for the 7 sessions that they will coach.  The sheet just had attendance and when the coaches needed to fill out evaluations for each participant.

Today I went to Nationals Field and set up the four fields that the YMCA uses.  I have to lay out the bases, tee stands, helmets, bats & balls. Today was the second set of games for the teams so all the teams had to come to the fields even if they didn't have a game because it was picture day.  All the teams were there about a half hour early for the pictures so the games could be on schedule. The pictures went smoothly and all the kids looked cute with their bats in the pictures.   I made sure that all of the coaches had picture forms to fill out so that the parents could buy the pictures afterwards.  The games went on as usually after the pictures were all taken.  After the games were over i picked up the fields and put equipment in the storage room.  Becky showed up at the end and we talked about what she needs me to help her with next week.

The upcoming weekend is going to be the first games for tee-ball and coach pitch so I had to get the field ready.  I made signs that had where each team played, what field they played on, and what times they were playing.  I went up to the storage room at National's Field and taped those signs up to 3 stake signs so I could place them at the 3 different fields that were being played on that day.  This will help the parents know what field that they are supposed to be at and cause less confusion for everyone.  After the signs were taped I made sure that the storage room was organized and cleaned up along with the restrooms.  After National's Field was taken care of I went back the the Y where Becky game me some registration forms to go through.  Becky has a lot of registration forms that she keeps and hasn't had time to go through them so she wanted me to go through them all and shred the ones that were 2 years or older.  She had a file full from A-Z.  This didn't take too long.

I helped clean out and organize the YMCA garage with Becky.  It was very hot out and dirty.  There were a lot of boxes with old logo jersey's in them.  I had to separate the old logo jersey's from the new logo jersey's and throw out the old jersey's.  With the new jersey's I had to separate them by sizes.  There were other shirts that were just thrown in the boxes like old YMCA soccer, basketball, and football camp shirts that I put in separate box from the jersey's.  After I was done separating and organizing shirts I had to fix 2 soccer goal nets that were tangled and broken that were in the garage.  I ended up just cutting off the nets and telling Becky that we should just get new nets on them.  There was a barrel of different soccer, basketball, and volleyball's that were flat or just old.  So I assorted the use-able balls and threw out the bad ones.  After everything was done Becky let me keep a couple old shirts for myself!
